Clouds covered overhead, the threat of a thunderstorm laying in its wake. The thunder clapped overhead like a thousand steeds stampeding to the sound of a marcher's drum. Lightning could be seen in the distance as it zig-zagged toward the ground before snapping back up. He could picture that again, and again, and again, but never would he see something so exact. Every lightning was different, just like every creature was different.
Wanting to find shelter from the impending storm, the black mass quickly turned into a path, finding it almost a tight fit but managing to squeeze through. Then, a smell. It hit him, right in the face. He was now illegally tresspassing. A moment's hesitation stopped him. Should he continue on and see what that destiny has laying in wait? Should he find another spot to wait out the storm and get soaked at the same time. The next thunder shook the ground, the ebony clouds churning up ahead. It gave him the motivation to move, and he let out a call as lightning formed around him, making him the monster out of the nightmare.
Daggers swiftly pounded against the ground, racing against time. The storm was bringing up a breeze that whipped at his mane and tail, slapping them harshly back down before picking them up again. This storm was going to be a doozy. Hopefully it did not change the planet as they knew it. Okay, overexaggeration, but Hermes figured he could get one of those. Risking a glance over his shoulder, he could see what looked like a massive cloud coming to the ground, but he knew it for what it really was. A massive downpour. Damn. He was gonna get caught.
Although it was the middle of the day, the sky had made it night. Almost like the night that he had lost his life and love. But no, he could not think of that right now. He sped up into a canter, daggers dipping into the ground only to propel him forward faster. He let out another call, this time louder, to let any who lived here that he was coming, and that he came in peace. But he was not fast enough. The rain hit as he hit the edge of the gorge and he stopped, looking for any figure that was caught in this weather like him. Cover did not matter anymore. The sodden beast could not get any wetter. The sky overhead was black, soupy, all around foreboding when paired with the winds, low, wet and thick, almost palpable with the scent of rain. No, not just rain- a storm. Echoing this observation, a sudden gust of wind tore through the mountainside trees, earning shriek from the old boughs. Above, the dark sky gave a clap, a loud, resonating explosion that seemed to make the very mountains shake- if the world could weep, it would, as just following the rumble, the winds increased their assault tenfold, and lightning laced the sky, white fire temporarily easing the pressing darkness.
A tender, blueish gray nose, blazed with white turned skyward, watching the trees whip, the clouds hover, and the occasional whip of light threatening to attack the little safe-haven of the light horses- but not a trace of fear was in her posture, not a bit of nervousness. The mare was lithe in size, grullo-roan in colour, a dark mane and tail only stirred up by the winds. She stood at the base of one of the seasonal trees around the lake, those that refused to grow on the mountainside, as the pines dotting the snowy peaks wouldn't dare touch root along the lake shores. Any moment now, the mare knew, the sky would split, and the rain would assault her territory- it was no heed to her, although even she didn't wish to be stuck in it. A horrible rain to chill her to the bone, who on earth would want it?
Deciding it best to make her way towards the back, taller peaks where she had made her home, at least to the shelter of the thicker trees, she turned and started away- but hadn't gotten far when a sound pierced the air. Not a clap of thunder of a shriek of a tree, being pushed past its flexibility, but the call of an equine. Her ears flicked towards the sound, and she heard it again, louder, clearer, and now accompanied by the pounding of hooves- a large equine, with somewhere to be- she assumed the safety of the trees, but alas, his plight was in vain, for the sky split, and a pounding rain was unleashed, first small drops on the ground, being hungrily soaked up by the dirt, and next, a torrential rain that even the ground would no longer accept. It began to turn to mud as, knowing she would soon be soaked to the bone anyway, began making her way over to where the gorge opened out into the valley, where the equine was huddled, looking around eagerly.
Her blue eyes looked over the new arrival- stallion, large, and black as night, darker than the sky above. He had only been searching for shelter from the storm, and yet instead had found her royal kingdom. She assessed the situation swiftly as she started closing the distance with long, graceful movements. He was larger than she, but she had an unmatched speed to get away- as well, she knew the forests and treacherous mountainsides far better than any other horse. She had nothing to fear, in her opinion, and it showed in her confident, graceful strides. "Having fun playing in the rain?" She question, her tone light, but none too familiar as she finally stopped a few feet from the stag, bright blue eyes fixating on him curiously.
